J’ai l’honneur de vous adresser le prospectus de l’Encyclopédie du XIXe siècle. <1> En le parcourant vous reconnaitrez que c’est le résumé de la science universelle où toutes les notabilités scientifiques de l’Europe sont appelées à concourir. A ce titre je crois pouvoir réclamer votre collaboration pour les questions dans lesquelles vous auriez fait faire des progrès à la science et à l’art, notamment votre calotype. Nous avons déja obtenu le concours de divers savants distingués.
Je desire également faire connaitre notre œuvre en Angleterre où elle fixera bientot l’attention si les hommes d’élite, comme vous, Monsieur, lui donnent des témoignages de leur intérêt.
Vous pourriez prendre communication de l’ouvrage au secrétariat de la bibliotheque de la Royal society.
Je serais heureux que vous voulussiez bien me faire connaître l’heure où je pourrais vous rencontrer chez vous, et je vous prie d’agréer, Monsieur, mes sentimens distingués

Sir,
I have the honour of sending you the prospectus for the Encyclopaedia of the XIXth century. If you glance at it, you will recognise that it is a summary of universal science to which all of the notable scientists in Europe are called to contribute. As such, I think I may ask for your contribution on the topics with which you have advanced science and art, particularly your calotype. We have already obtained the support of various distinguished scientists.
I would also like to make our work known in England, where it will soon attract attention if distinguished men, such as yourself, Sir, express their interest in it.
You could become acquainted with the work through the secretary of the Royal Society’s library.
I would be happy if you were willing to tell me when I may visit you and I ask you to accept, Sir, my best wishes
