Dear Henry

Your Ezekiel <1> is off – I had almost bought the other for myself.

I have applied for leave to the G Duke <2> for Wallis <3> to move the Corregio <4> [sic] to copy it & expect the permit in a day or two –

I wish you had seen Mr Volkmanns pictures

Notes:

1. Possibly a copy of Raphael’s Vision of Ezekiel in the Pitti Palace.

2. Leopold II (1797–1870), Grand Duke of Tuscany from 1824 to 1859.

3. Probably George Augustus Wallis (1770-1847), Scottish born painter resident in Florence who also was an art dealer and served as a representative of art dealers.

4. Antonio Allegri, known as ‘Correggio’ (1494–1534).

5. Henry Stephen Fox Strangways, 3rd Earl of Ilchester (1787–1858).
