Tuesday 14th November

Dear Constance

We were surprized yesterday morning by the sudden arrival of Caroline, <1> who had asked the Queen’s <2> leave to spend the day with me, she wanted to see you but there was no time as she was obliged to be back in time to dress for dinner. as she took up all my time yesterday I am forced to stay another day & shall not leave town till Thursday. I advise you to go tomorrow by an early train, and go & see the Castle sous les auspices de Caroline <3> who is fully prepared to expect you, as I said I should advise this. I will lend you Wright <4> who knows the way to Caroline’s apartment & he can return here when you go on to L. Abbey. This is supposing you are decided to go tomorrow. Of course I shall not stop at Windsor having seen her yesterday Henry was the first instigator of your seeing Windsor Castle. Cannot you come here before two o’clock & talk it over
