My Dear Constance
Will you send the poney carriage to meet me at the Station on Thursday, if not wanted for anything else. I go by the 2 oclock train which I suppose arrives at Chippm at ½ or ¾ past 4 oclock.
I enclose a good account of the Java radish given me by the foreman at Bull’s Nursery Garden where I saw many of these in flower. He says, mine should be turned out into the open ground immediately, but if Wilkins separates the 3 plants, they should perhaps be protected in the Vinery for a few days till rooted, but they do not seem at all delicate, therefore I think there is no risk in planting them out at once where they are to stay, of course watering them well. Bull has a number of curious unusual plants such as Tea Coffee Cocoa Nutmeg Cloves Gutta percha Rice (in flower), Variegated Maize and the curious plant on which the Australian Savages subsist which is like a clover with 4 leaves. Also the famous Indian fruit Mangosteen. Today was cool and agreeable everybody is talking of the row in the park. The mob have trampled down all the choice flowers which were so ornamental.
