13. Great Stuart St
Friday
My dear Henry –
The enclosed is such a neat looking letter that I cannot deny myself the pleasure of forwarding it – and I hope you will receive it kindly – There is no other for you at present. Today is gloomy with occasional attempts to snow. – I hope you have it brighter at Dabton. Our Registering Thermometer met with an accident this morning, and was broken when the housemaid was cleaning the outside of the window – I have sent to Bryson to get it replaced, because it is just at this time that one watches it with much interest – If its reading can be trusted today after the smash, the lowest degree last night was 32. Servants will be careless at times – and yet one cannot see why such an accident should happen one time rather than at another.
What a splendid handsome present of a christening robe, good Mrs Ewart gave little Mary Emily! – It was particularly kind in one who was not even Godmother. – I don’t recollect whether you ever met Mrs Ewart before – but I should guess not – and I fancy you would be pleased with her – We are getting on very well here – and Mamie I am glad to say, is better, though of course, still keeping her room – This weather keeps her back so much. – Give my love to all – and I am your affectionate
Constance.
I sent the Times yesterday – and will do the same, today and tomorrow. –
