Lacock Abbey
Wednesday 8th June
My dear Henry
Thanks for your letter of this morning - we shall have the fuller particulars of this interview when you come tomorrow. - I have just heard that Miss Roach (the eldest daughter) is coming down to Lacock tomorrow - and her Mother will be grateful if you will take her under your protection, should you happen to meet her on the platform at Paddington. - Her Parents directed her to come by the 2.30 train. She is small, fair, & in mourning - by these indications you may perhaps recognise her, if you come by the same train - and you would I am sure also bring her over from Chippenham in your Fly. - But how about the fare? - Possibly she may not intend to travel first class; - in which case I should like you to pay the difference & keep her with you - Her Mother is writing to her by this evening's post to 65 Westbourne Park Road, to prepare her for meeting you on the platform, as she might otherwise be alarmed at being accosted by a Stranger.
You seem to have prospered in all your undertakings in London, but how very hot the weather is. - Quite overpowering - I address this to the Club hoping you will enquire for letters there before you leave.
Your affectionate
Constance
Don't embarrass yourself about Miss Roach - for if you miss her she will find the Cobourg,<1> to meet her at Chippenham Station.
Notes:
1. The cobourg was a two-wheeled covered carriage, used especially in the country.
