4 Circus – Monday
October 30th
My dear Henry
Hawkins leaves on Tuesday the 14th a fortnight from tomorrow – I shall have some House accounts as well as her Wages to settle with her – I drew the remainder of last remittance at Melksham B– to pay accounts before I came away. And therefore as soon as it is convenient to you to place some money for me at Melksham Bank I shall be much obliged – I will thank you to forward to me the Brewery Account for October – and Ela must send Wynn’s account which she appears to have forgotten.
For current expenses here, I am of course, likewise, unprovided.
i have given a small order to Lomas for wine, which I expect today – There is also a wine merchant here, where Charles procured for us on Saturday a bottle of sherry on trial, & ditto Brandy – from Tylee, (late Lamb & Tylee) successor I presume to the Lamb of whom we had our wines at L Abbey in times past. Coals are very good – same price as we pay at Lacock. – very small fires suffice at present, and my own room is so warm I made the thermometer at 65 deg without any fire at all – Your room appears to be equally warm – it being over the kitchen is the probably explanation.
I am sorry we have this change to wet gloomy weather for Charles’s visit. It was so very bright & pleasant before – I shall expect you this day fortnight at latest – to stay a short time if you think it too early in the season to settle here altogether
Your affectionate
Constance.
