Circus – Tuesday
November 26th
My dear Henry
I want very much to know what you did about the Stove in the Stone gallery on finding that it did not throw out the same degree amount of heat as the one in the South gallery? I was extremely sorry to hear such a poor report of it from Ela & Rd. And as we know that a gill Stove is a good and efficient thing in itself, we can only lay the blame of failure to on the workman who set it up. Mr Noyes should be apprised of the fact that there is something altogether wrong – and he would undertake to set it right – Please to ask Charles whether this has been done – He should take this trouble off your hands – but I am afraid he is indifferent about it.
What do you say of that affair at Winchester School, the enculpatory [sic] letter of Dr Riddings, and the testimony of the Under Masters? How strange that they should all attempt to defend such an atrocious System!
I am going to send you some biscuits on Saturday. I will try & chuse well, and you must remember to tell me if they are the kind you like.
You would enjoy the good things that Mrs Henderson gives us – She is certainly an excellent Cook – I am afraid she will scarcely have scope for her talent in our quiet family. –
What fearful storms we are having! really it is distressing to read such continual disasters at Sea. and such floods on land in all parts of the world.
Tell me what you are doing and how you bear this dark weather –
Your affectionate
Constance
