Lacock Abbey,
Chippenham.
Friday July 19th
My dear Father,
Will you take this opportunity of putting my name down for the Athenæum? <1> Mamma <2> has forwarded you a letter in Mr Gaisford’s <3> hand-writing I believe. You have another communication <manifoldly?> a card fr polling card from Mr Long, <4> which has not been sent. Mr Mentieth <5> and I were in Chippenham today and saw a great many of the smashed windows. We also went to look at Chippenham church and went inside. It is quite worth seeing. I go to Llandaff on Friday.
Your affect son
Charles –
