13 Great Stuart Street
Wednesday
My dear Papa,
Mama thanks you for your letter of this morning – She is quite glad to be settled here after so many visits. We had four for Mrs Maxwell kindly invited us to see Carruchan so we went to her on Monday, arriving in time for luncheon – slept there one night and started by the two oclock train from Dumfries the following morning reaching Edinburgh after a prosperous journey about 6 oclock.
We had a bright morning at Carruchan and saw the place to advantage – In summer when the leaves are out it must be very pretty indeed.
The mildness of the weather is quite wonderful – Sunday was wet at Dabton but it was the only really bad day we had whilst day there. Tilly and all the little ones are flourishing and the latter much grown. –
The dining room looks very well and Mamma is pleased with the effect of the paper which is rich and handsome – The weather here today was very mild – thick and gloomy, ending by rain in the afternoon, – but every thing looks bright and cheerful indoors – and so very clean – it is an immense improvement having had the hall and staircase painted –
Good bye dear Papa
I am writing for the 5 oclock post so have not much time.
Yr affecte daughter Ela
Both Mamie and Monie are very well.
