My dear Papa,
Your letter, received today, befo both surprised and delighted me – for nothing could give us more pleasure than your proposed visit – I am only sorry that you can give us but two days for that is no time at all for seeing a new place – You do not say wether <sic> you bring a servant, but I suppose you do – Pray write a line when you have selected your train, that we may send the carriage to meet you – I did not think you were coming north again so soon, but on the contrary, fancied you meant to stay some time at Lacock – I write hurriedly, to catch an opportunity of sending this letter to Dumfries in time to go this evening. –
I hope, as you say, that Charles may stay here a little longer, but of course, he can settle d if he likes to do so after your arrival –
from your affectionate daughter
Matilda. –
Lo Sposo desires me to say many things from him, but I have no time left to do so. – He thinks that the train most likely to suit you reaches Dumfries at 4-40. –
