My dear Papa,
We came here on a visit to Major Butler Johnstone, yesterday & intend to stay till Friday morning, when we go home again to Dabton There is a large party in the house, which is a very pretty one, and altogether it is very pleasant & agreable. We are to drive to Moffat this afternoon, where I have never yet been. I intend to taste the mineral spring & see if it is good. We returned from Markeaton last Wednesday, after a weeks visit there, which went off very well in every way the weather was most propitious & we saw a good deal of the neighbourhood my only disappointment was that you did not come. I had hoped that Aunt Harriets persuasions & mine combined might have induced you to do so. Since our return I have been daily hoping for a letter from you to say whether you are coming to us soon or not. We have not yet fixed our time for going to Edinburgh for a week or two will make little difference to us & we hope you will arrange to come before that in fact if I knew at what time you would prefer to come to us I could make the other arrangements suit accordingly You will find Pussy looking very well & happy & quite reconciled to her temporary abode. Moss & our cats were rather inclined to be hostile at first, but have now made up their minds that they must be civil to the visitor. The children are well & happy. Baby has got one tooth & I thought Willie improved in looks during our absence. They were delighted with some toys Aunt Harriet sent them, especially with a very pretty doll which Uncle Mundy sent to Connie If Charles is with you, give my love to him & with the same to yourself, I remain
