My dear Papa,

I have delayed answering your letter, until I could reply to your question as to where we should be at Christmas. I am now very glad to be able to tell you that we shall be here – having arranged that John & I should go to Edinburgh tomorrow for a day or two, & get through our more immediate business, and then return here – and if we think it would be a good plan to give the children a little change bye & bye, we can move as a family later in the season – So now we depend on your coming as soon as you can manage it, & staying with us for Christmas, and the New Year – and I am sure that Charles had better come also, & we will be as much of a family party as we can manage. if he is at Lacock, will you tell him so – if not, & you will give me his proper address, I will write to him –

I have a letter from Mama today, written from San Remo, all pretty well We are all flourishing here – The children send love & Kisses to Grandpapa, & I am your most affecte daughter

Matilda
