Clifton June 24
My dear Henry
The botanical treasures you expected from the Pyrenees are, I suppose left for some future Botanist to discover who has not left his heart behind him! Were you not surprised at Uncle Wms thinking of taking a Wife? I cannot understand any thing about it but to me many things of the kind seem extraordinary I must confess – Sophey Sheffield is old enough to know her own mind certainly & I hope they will be very happy.–
I shall be very glad to hear how all your party are and if dear Constance bears this tremendous heat well I do not know what day we shall return into Glamorganshire but some go this week.
Jane & her party are at home now, they left Torquay before the great heat came on.
I have been in Dorset & Wiltshire since I heard from you last Annie Franklen was my companion she was enchanted with Salisbury Cathedral & Dr Fowler <1> was delighted with her. he is a wonderful Old Man, his memory so good & his head as clear as ever<.> Mrs Fowler is quite well too. –
Isabelle’s love & mine to all our Cousins
I am your affcte
Coz Mary
A steel pen cramps my ideas so no more –
