My dear Henry
I write to you at Lacock for the chance of finding you at home for I never hear where you are. – Coming into this County and seeing so many places we formerly visited together makes me think of you in particular, the land of “Tree won’t grow” <1> looks as usual and the beautiful Mount <2> remains undisturbed by the modern improvements which have changed so many places in the last few years; I have not yet seen Brown Willy or any of our favourite hills but before we leave Cornwall I suppose we shall travel from one end to the other. We came from Bristol by the Hayle Packet & found our selves within 8 miles of this place when we landed, but having a rough passage & being 25 hours on board the Packet was paying dear I think we have been here since last Saturday & Mamma <3> has not yet recovered her sea voyage but I am quite chasing.
We shall remain here another week at least, & then intend paying a visit at Carclew <4> but I do not know when we shall be there.
If you have any “scraps” of Photographs I should be very much obliged for one or two several people seem to me to be in the dark about it & I have none here to shew. I prevailed on myself to give away two or three to a friend of ours who was fully sensible of the favour & had never seen any before (Mrs Whitby) –
My love to Mrs Talbot & the Childn <5> – Aunt Lily & Horatia <6> if at home. –
I am your affcte coz.
Mary
Mamma sends her love.
