Thank you for Sismondie; I am glad you did not expect either of them us today, and it is lucky we did not come, as the train Alfred returned by was an hour behind time. There must have been an accident owing to the fog, as the post was also greatly delayed. Mrs Traherne has just been here, and was disappointed not to find you, but she thinks she will be still here when you return. The Daily Telegraph is justly indignant at Marshal Bazaine’s condemnation, and gave an article yesterday far superior to the Times – but I do not think they will dare to carry out the Sentence.
We have received 3 pheasants from Mount Edgcumbe this morning and shall send you one tomorrow.
