Llanelay <1>
Saturday Evg

My dear Talbot

Your letter of enquiry respecting Jane & Christiana <2> was opened by Miss Talbot this evening. I am happy to say both the sufferers are convalescent – The accident as described in the Newspaper was exaggerated in the consequences, not in the circumstances. The child was not senseless or stunned, though much burned & slightly cut about the head & face, & my sister dislocated the small bone of her arm at the elbow – Jane bore it well & is well enough to be of comfort in the hour of mourning – I have nothing new to tell you of those here –

Yours truly
Jno Nicholl

Notes:

1. Alternative spelling of Llanely, or Lanely, Glamorganshire: home of Lady Mary Cole and Mary Thereza Talbot.

2. Jane Harriot Nicholl, née Talbot (1796–1874) and her daughter, Christiana Judy Nicholl (1827-1887).
