Monsieur,

L. Tardieu

Translation:

Paris
13 September 1853

Sir,

I have invented a few instruments and notably a new arrangement for a photographic darkroom that appears to be far superior in terms of solidity, lightness, simplicity, good pricing and the quality of results. The darkroom is unparalleled in its merit, especially for voyages and all operations which require major displacement, such as views that must be made in the countryside.

At first my intention was to take out a patent, in England; however due to interruptions and the difficulty of exploiting this invention in a country where I do not reside, I thought it best to collaborate with someone from the country to take out a patent together or to sell my invention and the right, to take out a patent, in my place for his exclusive account.

If this proposition suits you, Sir, please, I beg you, do me the honour of notifying me, and in full confidence of our loyalty and our discretion, I will immediately have the drawings relating to this invention sent to you that you might take advantage of it.

Awaiting your prompt response, I have the honour of being, Sir, your humble Servant.
L. Tardieu
