My dear Henry
I have to thank you for sending Matilda’s cards I am sorry she is settled so far off yet perhaps if she had been much nearer I might still never have had the opportunity of seeing her I hope she will be very happy – My recollection of her is of a bright little girl more like your mother than either of the others – & if she inherits some of her turn of mind she has the materials for being & making happy as much as any woman can – I have many of your mothers letters to mine which I sometimes recreate myself with looking over – how different they were yet how much they enjoyed each other – I am afraid you must be missing your daughter too much to be congratulated any more than her mother These things have always their uncomfortable side at the time although they add to our comfort & satisfaction in reflection so [illegible]spects – With love to your remaining family
believe me yours affly
Charlotte Traherne
Mr Traherne desires his affectionate regards & complts he is better than he has been though not well –
