My dear Henry

With my kindest Christmas greeting I have the pleasure of sending you two more Journals of Miss Porter’s <1> which will much amuse you – I had misplaced them somehow & did not find them till today – I shall send them by post so we shall not have the trouble we had about the Letters – I dont know that I am likely to be at Bath this Season but it is possible – I wish you were here today – it is so fine & sunny & the sea is so pretty after all the cold & dark days we have had – my love to your folk –

Yours affly
Charlotte L Traherne

Notes:

1. Agnes Anne Porter (1750-1814), the Scottish born governess to the 2nd Earl of Ilchester, primarily at Penrice. Unusually for a working woman of the period, some of her letters and diaries were preserved and have been published. See Joanna Martin, A Governess in the Age of Jane Austin. The Journals and Letters of Agnes Porter (London: The Hambledon Press, 1998). Also see Doc. No: 03913.
