Sir,

Since I have some things to say to you about the affair between Mr de Bassano and myself, in which you have already been involved, I won't write too much about it in this letter which is constrained by time - I see that you have just published a booklet on the new French law on patents, I will attempt to get this work for myself in London - Having made new discoveries in photography, I believe that I will do well to take out a new patent to assure for myself the ownership of them in France, now that patents are cheaper, you cannot risk little in taking them out. I would like you to take out to be able to this patent for me, if this suits you, and I will await your reply in order to know if I have to send you the detailed description of the invention, and if I must do anything other than that, and if the intervention of Messrs Poole & Carpmael is necessary in this affair or rather if I will be able to arrange it with yourself alone

Notes:

1. Hugues Antoine Joseph Eugène Maret, Marquis de Bassano (1806-1889), photographic entrepreneur, Paris.

2. Poole & Carpmael, London solicitors.
