Dear Sir,

Most heartily do I thank you for your kind and valuable letter, which I believe to be in a form that ought to be of the greatest service to me. It is really very good of you to say so much on my behalf: this adds one more to the host of Kindnesses which we have constantly received from you and yours for nearly twenty years.

When the opportunity occurs for making use of your letter, I feel sure it will have weighty influence; and if, unluckily that opportunity should not immediately present itself, it still affords us such sincere pleasure to be thus Addressed by one we so honour, that I cannot regret my rather bold application. This I am sure, you have pardoned, and trust you know my thankfulness for the considerable help your friendship has afforded us in working our way through life.

May you ever believe me, dear Sir, Your truly obliged
Alfred Thos Vardon
