Lacock Abbey
Decr 2nd

Sir

I beg to inform you that the box you mentioned in your letter is at the Abbey it was brought from Melksham Station by a man and boy who charged 1s/6d for bringing it over the charge from London was 5s/ as charged on the railway book I have sent you the bill that Mr Pullen got when he paid the man who brought it from Melksham Station if you will please to let me know where I am to send it by Passenger or Luggage train and I will forward it as soon as I hear from you it came from London by Passenger train With regard to the vacent [sic] ground in the plantation on the hill I should like to try some potatoes in it another year as the past season was not a fair one to judge by. The crop this year was very small but they was free from decease [sic] which is a good Sign but as we have 2 Acres now I think it would be the best plan to plant the one where the potatoes grow this year with young Larch and a few spruce firs mixt with them for shelter the other Acre that has not been grubbed to be got ready by the Spring and planted with potatoes the piece where the potatoes was is in good condition to receive the young trees and it’s a good time to plant now, if you will please to let me know if you like the plan I have mentioned and then I will see about it while the weather continues mild I find we can get some good trees from Mr Heale of Calne who planted a great deal of the present plantation I have got some annuals sown in the Zinc Greenhouse for Spring flowering the turnpike to Chippenham when the box is sent off to you will be 7d½

I beg to remain Sir your Obedt Servant
Geo. Wilkins
