Pregiatissimo Amico

Vostro Devmo Servitore,

Translation:

My most valued Friend

Tomorrow morning I am invited to visit Mr Herschel in Slough, and I shall go there to spend the whole day with him. I will therefore not be able to be at home at the hour which you have set aside to come and collect Chevalier’s Microscope to show it to your friend. I therefore propose to send it to you this evening with my servant. Should I have time to rectify the reflection Microscope, you will also receive this, since Mr Robinson has repaired the little damage which its transportation caused to the frame. On Monday I shall go to Chelsea and only on Tuesday will I be able to have the pleasure of seeing you once again. In the meantime, allow that I repeat at this time the assurance of the distinguished esteem with which I am

Your Most Devoted Servant
