Saturday
My Dear Henry
I am sorry to say le mieux <1> of yesterday was of short duration. The Rheumatism attacked the lungs in the evening & Dr Seymour <2> who was called in, bled him last night 14 ounces, & again this Morning, & is now putting on a blister. After so long an illness & so much weakness I cannot think how he is to bear being reduced so much, but both Dr S & Mr Cutler <3> said there was no doubt about the treatment & not a moment to be lost, as the state of Inflammation was so high. I am extremely uneasy, for Dr Seymour said he thought it his duty to tell me that the illness is very serious. I will keep this open till post time to give you the latest account.
It is some hours since I began this, & he is a shade better – he wandered a very little early this Morning & talked a great deal about you –
Amandier <4> is still here, she is a comfort to Horatia <5>
