My dear Henry

He is so much better that he wishes us to go to Lady Downshire’s <1> Ball to night, but I do not think we shall, because when One has been much agitated & alarmed one cannot tout d’un coup <2> raise one’s spirits to the ball pitch. Besides Horatia <3> has been so nervous & unhappy she should be sure not to look well.

You shall hear again tomorrow
