I had the honour to receive your letter <1> of the 30th Ultimo [sic] and have since succeeded in obtaining an interview with Mr Carpael <2> [sic] whose proposals in reference to your Calotype Patent I am desirous of entertaining as soon as so as he shall be prepared to place them in a tangible form;<3> and upon its presenting a fair prospect of remuneration I beg to assure you that no effort should be wanting on my part to bring it into successful opperation [sic]

I am Sir Your Obdt Servt

Notes:

1. Letter not located.

2. Misspelling for William Carpmael (1804–1867), patent agent & engineer, London.

3. WHFT's patent for the Calotype entitled ‘Photographic Pictures’, No. 8,842, 8 February 1841. Carpmael went so far as to write out a complete contract, making Beard the agent for WHFT for 14 years for England, Wales and Berwick upon Tweed - the dates are not filled in save for the year 1842 and the Indenture was obviously never signed.
