My dear Sir
I have taken the earliest opportunity of calling with Mr Ward the Engineer engaged in laying out the Railway Line, to explain a vexating mistake into which Brunel <1> was led by the Ordnance Map as to the distance from the Abbey at which it was proposed to pass – Little as I agree with your apprehensions of annoyance from the Line, it is my decided Wish, & I have no doubt that of the other directors, though I have not been able to communicate with them, that the agreement which has been entered into shd be observed with perfect good Faith – & Mr Ward will anxiously endeavour to make such an arrangement as may be satisfactory to you –
We will, if we hear nothing to the Contrary have the pleasure of calling again at 2 o’clock on Tuesday the 26th
I remain Yr very faithfully
J W Awdry
