My dear Sir

Herewith I send the Weekly Times with a long notice of the Talbotype & the Daguerreotype. I consider the discoveries essentially different, tho there is a great similitude in one way, as the principle involved in both is the same – I have endeavored to state the matter fairly & plainly and shall be gratified if you think I have succeeded. As yet, I have seen no Talbotype pictures as good as those done by yourself.

I was thinking of revising & extending the article in the Weekly Times, with a view to printing it in the London Journal, a publication which sells over 180,000 copies each week. If I did so, I would have headed the article with portraits of M. Daguerre & yourself, neatly engraved on wood. But M. Claudet tells me that you have not allowed any portrait of yourself to be taken, and fears that you would shrink from the publicity of having one put into a periodical If so, there is an end of the matter. But if you have no such scruples, or if you would waive waive them, I should be well pleased, as the portraits would give the article a considerable increase of interest. Claudet thinks that there will be portraits yet taken by you perhaps as sharp & defined as can be desired.

Very truly Yours –

R. Shelton MacKenzie
