My Dear Constance
I am getting on pretty well & like my new servant. His name is Sommerfeldt, <1> a German, I think I shall stay here all tomorrow – I was here once before in 1822 but I have forgotten the place. I have taken up my quarters at the Hotel du Parc. It has a small garden behind it, full of the choicest shrubs – I have only time to name 2 or 3 – Double white – Banksia rose, all in flower, growing as a standard. A date palm. A fine fan palm. Casuarina equisetifolia, a good sized tree from Australia, with foliage like hair, or the mane of a horse. This is the most southern spot in France except a small bit of land south of Perpignan, adjoining Spain. Now I am going for a little walk, so adieu and I will give further particulars in my next. Your affte
Henry
