Dear Mr Talbot
I sent your note & the paper on “Minor points” to Mr Brunel early this morning – He returned the paper with pencil erasures & observatns which you will observe –
Mr Brunel in a letter to me on different matters says – “I told Mr King & Mr Talbot himself that we have no control over the domicile of our men” –
“I also told Mr Talbot that we do not give facilities to Landowners, but of course that he shall have the <same?> we do give”. –
<2 short hand-drawn lines>
I <illeg> you can obtain what you want with regard to the lodging of the men who are in fact the servants of the Contractors & not of the Company by directing your <tenants?> in Laycock village (I suppose all the houses are your own) not to receive lodgers –
With regard to power of removing men for bad conduct you can insist on the appointmt of a Rail road police if you choose, & the <fear?> of this heavy expense will keep them in order –
Yrs vy try
