Dear Sir,

I have seen Mr Carpenter about the Overcharge for the Fly which you hired at the Station – he says that no regular fares have yet been agreed upon and that they have therefore hitherto charged s1/• a mile, but not less than s5/• for any Journey, so if you had taken the Fly to the Abbey the charge wod have been the same – it seems that s1/• is paid for every Journey however short, for Duty – and Carpenter says that his Fly is frequently unemployed for the whole day, though waiting for every train. he promises however to return whatever may be the excess as soon as he has settled with the Compy as to the scale of fares in future –

I am Dear Sir Your obliged Servt
West Awdry
