Dear Sir,

Will you leave the question as to the price of the Land taken by the Railway Co to Mr Sotheron’s <1> decision? or to Mr Ludlow Bruges?<2>

Your obliged Sert
West Awdry.

Notes:

1. Thomas Henry Sutton Sotheron Bucknall Estcourt (4 Apr 1801 - 6 Jan 1876), Conservative MP; born Thomas Bucknall-Estcourt, he used this name until 1839 and then Thomas Sotheron from 1839 to 1855.

2. William Heald Ludlow (1795-1855), JP and Magistrate. He took on the surname Bruges as a condition of inheritance from his great-uncle, Thomas Bruges of Seend (d 1835); JP, Melksham banker, landowner, surveyor and mathematician. For reasons yet to be determined, in his will Thomas bequeathed a sum of money to Mary Anna Fry (b 1793) spinster sister of the photographic pioneer Peter Wickens Fry (1795-1860).
