Chippenham
27 Sept. 1848
Dear Sir,
Mr Matthews has sent me some Papers from the Committee of Council on Education, which have, I believe, been already submitted to you, with a request that I will answer the queries respecting the Site of the School Buildings at Lacock – I have always understood them to be your private Property, but if be <sic> an object to get assistance from Government under the late Minutes of 1846 I apprehend the first thing to be done is to convey the Site & Buildings to Trustees for the education of the Poor of the Parish – and before I answer the queries on this head I should feel obliged by your informing me whether you have any objection to conveying them accordingly – it is usual to appoint the Vicar & Church wardens for the time being, with the Grantor of the Land and any other resident gentlemen, Trustees – I will if you please send you a <form?> of the usual Deed of Conveyance & Trusts.
I remain dear SirYour obliged Servant
West Awdry.
