Dear Sir,

Thomas Hayward <1> is a man who has seen better days – he once kept an Inn at this Place – he is now I believe breaking Stones on the Road – I consider him a hard working, honest, man – when he is unable to get Employment he has relief from the Parish but always seems to think himself hardly used – I will make Enquiries into his Case at the Board tomorrow and let you know the result, if you feel disposed to assist him I will take care that any thing you may give is applied in a way most likely to be beneficial to him

I remain dear Sir Yours obliged
West Awdry

I should be glad to receive the Bills for the Conservatory &c when it is convenient to you to send them

Notes:

1. Thomas Hayward (1781-1865?), former inn keeper in Chippenham, manual laborer, and pensioner - see Doc. No: 06568.
