Chippenham

1 Dec. 1853

Dear Sir,

The field adjoining the Melksham Road is not in Settlement, and I think the ore must be as much as half an acre on the top of the Hill leading towards Chippenham, the Site of the old Barn & the Garden, also unsettled, but the field behind it is part of <Jurlands?> Farm and settled –

The Meeting stands adjourned till next Saturday after which I will write you again with the result, but Mr Barton, who is one of the Church Wardens, told me on Tuesday that the parishioners generally are in favor of Enlarging the present Church Yard, though on sanitary Grounds it would doubtless be better to make a new Cemetery out of the Village – Poor old Mrs Marchant is supposed to be very near her End – She has had a fit – Her daughter Mrs Fitzsimmonds is with her – and I have requested that every attention may be paid her by the Relieving Officer, wch he has promised me shall be done.

I am Dear Sir Your obliged Svt

West Awdry

H F. Talbot Esq
