Chippenham
1 Feby 1854
Dear Sir,
I laid your letter respecting the proposed new Burial Ground and Chapel before the Vestry and was requested to thank you for the liberal offer of additional land for planting, a suggestion which was highly approved and cordially accepted. With regard to the Chapel itself, the Drawing was taken from a Building lately erected nr Devizes in connection with the County Lunatic Asylum, after an inspection by Sir John Awdry <1> and Mr Brett, both of whom thought it in good taste and suitable for the purpose at Lacock – The plan is however only adopted subject to your approbation and I shall delay advertising for tenders for that as well as the Enclosure of the Grod till I hear from you satisfactorily on the subject
It is proposed to have a sunk fence outside, with a Wall not more than a foot above the level of the ground inside – We shall see how nearly the tenders approximate to Gale’s Estimates, which as regards the Enclosing certainly appears high
I remain Dear Sir Yours obliged
West Awdry.
