Dear Sir,

I have seen Farmer Breach who tells me, as I expected, that he wants Mary Hudd’s Cottage for a Laborer who has a much larger family than Hudd has – He says however that he should not have given her notice to quit if she had not been impertinent to his Wife on her applying to her for her rent which was in arrears – I will see if there is a smaller Cottage which Hudd could have – if not, Breach will not remove her against your wishes. I am just returned from Salisbury, after a very <a?> light Assize, I hope you found Mrs Talbot <1> and your family quite well on your return to the North. With my best Compliments to her

I am dear SirYours obliged

West Awdry.

1. Constance Talbot, née Mundy (1811–1880), WHFT’s wife.
