Chippenham <1>
22 Dec. 1856

Dear Sir,

Thomas Hayward <2> is an Old Man who has seen better days, but he has still a good many friends. He receives s5 /– a Week from the Parish besides a little Meat occasionally His Wife has been ill but is now recovered – He has a Son who is working at Chippenham, married, but I do not suppose he gets any help from him – The Old man Earns a trifle by working on the roads when he is well Enough, but he is crippled by Rheumatism, and not able to do much.
