Chippenham <1>

17 Septr 1857

Dear Sir,

I will see Josh Croker and arrange with him – I have seen Mr Brotherhood & Mr Mortimore <2> sevl times and they expressed their intention of going to see your “Works” at Nash Hill & Nethermore – but I think Mr Brotherhoods hands are very full just now – He says he should be glad to smelt your Ore when his Furnaces are completed at Westburg – A person called on me yesterday (in my absence in London) who has been employed by the Duke of Somersets Agent to look at his Land at Seend, containing Iron Ore, Shall I get him to look at yours? He seems a practical Man and might give some useful hints about working it and the probable Expence for the tram way you speak of – He lives near Bristol.

I remain Dear Sir Your obliged Servt

West Awdry

Shall I pay the Enclosed for you? H. F. Talbot Esq

Notes:

1. Chippenham, Wiltshire: largest town near Lacock, 3 miles N.
