Chippenham <1>
23 March 1858
Dear Sir,
I have just recd a letter from Mr Nicholson <2> proposing next Saturday for going to Lacock Abbey and I have agreed to drive him over – If he arrives by the Express Train we shall be with you soon after 12 o’C – Perhaps you will be good enough to let me know if any other time will be more convenient to you.
I have seen Croker of Nethermore <3> who is quite willing that you should make any arrangement for removing the Ore convenient to yourself and Lessees – I went to Joseph Crokers at Ash Hill but he was from home – I am to see him on Thursday next – I do not anticipate any difficulty – His tenancy commenced at Lady day<4> and therefore we should be doing no good by giving him a notice to quit before the Lady day now at hand – but if he gives trouble you can do so before Michaelmas for next Lady day – I will let you know what he says after Thursday
your’s obliged
West Awdry
H. F. Talbot Esq
