Chippenham <1> Dear Sir, In case I should not be able to call on you tomorrow I write a line to say that I have remitted £200 to the Bank of Scotland at Edinburgh – and £125 to the Melksham Bank – I will also pay Gale and Fortune their bills-<2> I attended a Vestry Meeting yesterday about the Asylum when it was thought that £300 would be a fair Sum to ask for the same when no longer required for the purposes of the Union – This will be communicated to the School Committee but I doubt its being acted upon – as it would be necessary to expend a considerable Sum in addition, to adapt the Building for Schools so as to meet the requirements of the Committee of Council in Education – I have not yet had a reply from the Railway Company about the pieces of land I mentioned to you – I should have called at the Abbey yesterday but I got wet in riding over and it was late before the Vestry meeting broke up – I remain dear Sir Your obliged Sert West Awdry 1. Chippenham, Wiltshire: largest town near Lacock, 3 miles N. 2. John Gale, carpenter at Lacock. For Fortune, see Doc. No: 06825
