I enclose you Coll Boldero’s <1> retiring Address – I will give you the reasons wch caused it When I have the pleasure of seeing you – I hear that after all Mr Lowe <2> is was opposed at Calne by a Wine-Merchant there! of course to be beaten 3. to 1.

2. Robert Lowe (1811–1892), Liberal MP; sat for Calne, 1859–1868, created 1st Viscount Sherbrooke, 1880. Was President of the Board of Health and Vice-President of the Education Board of the Privy Council, 1859–1864, and Chanceller of the Exchequer, 1868–1873.
