Dear Sir,

Mr Attwood thinks it probable that the dilapidations at Fisherton<1> wod be estimated at from £50 to £100 in addition to the sum awarded for the Barn &c wch were destroyed by Fire.<2> I think £247 - He thinks there would be no difficulty in finding a Purchaser by private Contract, but considers £1000, the dilapidations being added, a fair price - Unless I receive a Letter from you tomorrow Morning desiring me to see Mr Alford again I will make enquiries as I go thro' Bath as to Dr Nicholas's <3> state of health -

I am Dear Sir Your Obliged & Obed Sert
West Awdry.

H. F. Talbot Esq
31 Sackville St
Piccadilly
London

Notes:

1. Fisherton Anger, Salisbury, Wiltshire. WHFT had inherited the advowson (the right to present a new Rector to St Clement's Church) from his father, Davenport Talbot, and held it until 1849. The new Rector would enjoy the income and assets of the living, including the Rector's house. St Clement's was demolished in 1852 and parts of it were incorporated into the new St Paul's Church. Dilapidations would be elements in a poor state of repair. Apparently he is referring to repairs and improvements that have been made to the property that would increase the price of the advowson.

2. This was possibly the same fire that severely damaged the Rectory in 1834.

3. Rev Dr J Nicholas (1764 - 7 October 1836). [See Doc. No: 03467].
