Chippenham <1>
5. May 1864
Dear Sir,
I have remitted £400· to Messrs Coutts & Co <2> on acct of your rents in addition to £400· remitted to the Bank of Scotland last Week I have also remitted the first £1000· on account of the Mortgage But find that the Stock which I have sold to produce the second £1000 will not be realized till the 16th in consequence of the unsettled state of the Money Market You will see by the Times that the Bank of England have raised their rate of interest to £8 prCent If it will be inconvenient to you in settling your purchase to wait till the 16th I will ask my Bankers to advance the remaining £1000 charging no interest for it in the mean time but I think it better to ask you the question in case the Vendors are not prepared to settle immediately
I remain dear Sir Yours obliged
West Awdry.
