Dear Sir,
I send for your signature the Conveyance of the Old Vicarage at Lacock – Be good enough to get your Servant or some other person to attest your Execution where I have marked in pencil. Your Son<1> has I am sorry to say been disappointed of his shooting in InWood,<2> in consequence of the Duke<3> having fixed yesterday for drawing the Covert<4>.

4. A covert is a thicket preserved to provide shelter to game. 'Drawing the covert' is a practise whereby the members of a hunt surround a covert to prevent foxes from escaping, allowing new puppies to locate and kill weak young foxes, both as a cull and as training.
