Chippenham <1>

14 June 1865

Dear Sir,

I am sorry to say that Cave has not yet paid his rent tho’ I have requested him to do so more than once – I will apply to him again as well as Joseph Croker who is also in arrear – I can send you the balance of the Timber money if you wish it, wch will become payable next month, (18th July) I have just been attending the Magistrates Meeting at Corsham <2> prosecuting a young man for demolishing the windows of one your Cottages –

He was fined £5 in addition to the Amount of injury done – or in default of payment to be imprisoned for two months –

Have you heard of the serious illness of Mr Guthrie <3>? I understand his Case is considered hopeless – He will be very much missed at Calne <4> as well as elsewhere –

I am Dear Sir
Yours obliged

West Awdry

H. F. Talbot Esq
