Chippenham <1>
July 15th

Dear Sir,

We are still under the care of the Guards and about 200 Special Constables. The Magistrates have now about 30 of the rioters under examination, but a great many of them are mere Boys – I hope we shall get at the Leaders who evidently organized them – The polling day for North Wilts is fixed for the 21st (next Friday) betn 8 & 5. You will receive a Card immediately after the nomination which takes place at Devizes on the 18th unless Sir G. Jenkinson <2> should retire on that day, which I am afraid is not likely, though I believe he has no chance of success.

I remain
Yours obliged
West Awdry

The extent of injury I have sustained is confined to the breakage of my office Windows They did not go as the threatened to Monkton.<3>
