Chippenham <1>

4 Oct. 1866

Dear Sir,

I have remitted £127ּ 4s/8 to your Account at Melksham Bank – The strip of Land to which you refer as affording you a better road to Nethermore <2> in Case of your digging iron ore, does not belong to the Representatives of the late Mr Huggins but was sold by Mr Harkey to the late Lord Lansdowne <3> with the adjoining Farm – It is intended to sell Mr Huggins’ Land by Auction shortly unless acceptable offers are made by private Contract – I will endeavor to let you see a Plan of showing those portions which adjoin your Estate but I am afraid they would be satisfied with nothing short of fancy prices by private contract.

I remain
Yours obliged

West Awdry

H. F. Talbot Esq
