Dear Sir,

The 18 Geo: 2. C20.S.3 enacts “that any person who shall act as a Justice of the Peace for any Country &c without having taken & subscribed the said Oath of Qualifn &c shall for every offence forfeit £100.” I think your receiving Declarations of pensioners &c comes within the Act – but you are no doubt aware that an Act is passed annually to protect persons who have omitted to qualify themselves for offices &c By the Rules of the Quarter Sessions it seems that you can only qualify on the first day of Quarter Sessions – The next will be held in October <illegible deletion>

I am dear sir
Your obliged & Obedt Sevt
